In our classroom, my main goal is to make sure students have a safe and positive learning environment. I refer to the students in my class as a team and talk about how we all work together to make our learning environment awesome! I use a rainbow chart to help students self monitor the choices they are making at school. They may clip up and down throughout the day, but the focus is on making sure students understand how their choices affect others around them. Starting top to bottom: purple is outstanding, blue is great job, pink is good day, green is ready to learn, yellow is think about it, orange is teacher's choice, and red is parent contact. Students will start coloring what kind of day they had at school on a calendar in late September. This will help ensure we have daily communication about behavior. Focusing on the positive at school is also reinforced with PAWs tickets, which the students can earn for PAWs assemblies. At these assemblies, tickets will be drawn for class and individual prizes.
